Did you see the sunset this evening? I did and it was spectacular, there was so much colour in the sky that I could not fit it into one photo, so here are two panoramas.
This is five photos stitched together.

This is two photos stitched together.

More Ripples

I have been plodding away doing a little bit of crochet now and again. I was delighted to see wool for sale in the supermarket today, I didn't think I would be able to buy any here, I bought one ball of purple and one of mauve, they had some other nice colours, I might just get two balls at a time in preparation for my next project.

Rippling on

I have been doing a little bit of ripple crochet each day, it is growing very slowly.

I was at work at Lifeline today, a lot of people came in with donations, more than any day I have been there before, I think they must all be cleaning up after Christmas.

When Richard cleared the blocked drain at the weekend he hurt his back and has been walking around with a twist in his body. He seems OK again today but is taking things easy, watching TV and reading.

Rippling

I did a bit more crocheting today, I am not very excited about the colours, but I am using up some wool I have, I think I will just make this into a cushion cover and then buy some wool in a colour scheme I decide on.

Dusk view

We went for a ride on our bikes this evening, I wanted to go to the bird hide at Kakadu Beach, there were not as many birds there as there was this morning. The view towards the Glasshouse Mountains was as beautiful as ever with the pink glow in the evening sky.

Kakadu Beach

I rode my bike to Kakadu Beach this morning, there were lots of birds on the beach and some Galahs in the park and a pleasant view of the Glasshouse Mountains. I had my camera with the Zoom lens so got a few shots.

Stormwater problems

Yesterday Richard decided to investigate why the stormwater was still leaking. He found that the drains were full of tree roots. It took all day to dig up the pipes, remove the roots and relay and fill in the trenches, a very tiring and hot job.

Ripple crochet

Melanie recommended the Attic 24 blog http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/, (I can't get the link thingy to work!!) I found the instructions for ripple crochet there. I found some leftover wool and have started crocheting rather than wasting time on Facebook! here are photos of what I have done today.

Helicopter

A spraying helicopter was flying around over the creek this morning, it was going so low, guess it would be fun to be flying around like that.

2 January 2010

We went to Morayfield this morning and bought some plants for the front garden, we got two French Lavenders, a crimson dwarf Ixia, a yellow dwarf Ixia, a Leucophyllum frutescens and a Melaleuca fulgens. I planted the first five but decided that the Melaleuca may be a bit big so I'll plant it in the back yard.

We seem to be in the habit now of sitting out the back around 4:30pm and waiting for the Rosellas to fly in. They arrived very soon after we settled but they seemed quite content to sit in the bottlebrush tree and nibble on the seedpods. A dove came and went a few times it didn't seem very interested in the seeds.

We waited for ages until one Rosella flew down to the ground and cautiously went towards the plate of seed, the second bird flew down later it was obviously the male as it is larger and was doing a type of display near the plate.

Party Time

We've started something now, will be the most popular house on the block - don't worry we will not be putting the seed out every day.

Two Pale Headed Rosellas

Our patience paid off and two Pale Headed Rosellas found the bird seed

Leftover Turkey

I made Turkey Divine with the leftover turkey after Christmas, here is the recipe - it was delicious.

300 - 400g cold cooked turkey, cut up
1 head broccoli chopped (I used frozen and some frozen mixed veges))
1 - 1 1/2 cups dry pasta
1 cup white sauce

Put the broccoli, pasta, white sauce, chopped turkey in ovenproof dish, cover with a thin layer of grated cheese, add salt and pepper.

Bake at 170c for about 25 minutes until cheese browns. Can add herbs and spices to your taste.

New Year's Eve Fireworks, Bongaree

Last night - New Years Eve, we went to Bongaree to watch the fireworks. I had not taken any fireworks photos before so I gave it a try, I wasn't too successful, we were a long way away and I did not take the zoom lens. It was lovely being near the water at night with the lights on the boats then the short fireworks display.

Morning walk

I sometimes take my camera when I go for an early morning walk or ride. I walked down to Pacific Harbour and took a few photos along the way.

Early days

We were spending time at the back of the house, Richard does not look pleased, but I seem quite happy :-)

Single red Hibiscus

This red hibiscus was growing at the front of the house, we removed it as it was too close to the house, I took some photos of the flowers under the skylight in the kitchen in front of black cardboard, I like the effect of the red against the black.

Banksias on Reserve

I went for a walk along the reserve behind our house, there are lots of Banksia bushes there.

Orange hibiscus

Another beautiful hibiscus from the garden, I picked the flower and took it inside. I took the photo under the kitchen skylight in front of black cardboard.

Dove

We decided to put some wild bird seed mix out in the yard, it took a few days but we got some takers, the seed had been flooded by rain but the dove did not seem to mind.

Lizard & Cockatoos

This day I had a lizard at my feet

and Yellow tailed Black Cockatoos in the tree above

White Cheeked Honeyeater

We get a variety of birds, have not seen a White Cheeked Honeyeater before. I have just realised the bird is difficult to see - it is on top of the bottlebrush.

I cannot identify all of the birds so I usually post a photo on one of the photographic forums and one of the experts lets me know what it is.

Sunset 6-12-2009

The sunset was a little more colourful on this day.

Noisy Friarbird and Lorikeet

For one day Lorikeets and Noisy Friarbirds found our garden attractive, it is puzzling why some birds only visit for a day.

Sunset

After living here for about a month I thought it was about time to make my way to the waterfront at sunset to take some sunset photos - the sandflies thought it was great they had a lovely feed!! The sky was not very colourful this day, the big band of cloud made it rather dark along the horizon.

Front Garden lizard

The lizards not only visit the back yard but also the front, this one was only about 30cm long and did not like posing for a photo, every time I moved to get a clearer shot he moved away from me

Red Hibiscus

We have several hibiscus plants in the garden. I think this one would be called a double flower, it does not have the usual stamen protruding from it. I think it is lovely and the grasshoppers do not seem to destroy them here (yet!) like they did in our last garden.

Bearded Dragon

A few days later as we were having our breakfast on the back patio we noticed this Bearded Dragon in the garden. I was following it around taking photos, in the end Richard had to tell me to stop or I would be late for work!

Goanna

We were sitting out the back of the house and saw this huge goanna wandering around our yard, I took several photos of it before it nonchalantly walked across the yard and down the side of the house and onto the road.

Rainbow Bee-eater

I had seen photos of Rainbow Bee-eater birds but had never seen one in real life. I was so thrilled when I noticed a Rainbow Bee-eater sitting on a tree stake over our back fence. It took a couple of days before I could get a good photo, at first the bird flew away whenever I tried to get near it for a photo, but my persistence paid off and I got these shots.

Furniture arrives

The purchase of the house settled on 20 November, 2009, we were relieved as Richard being a pessimist had fears that something would go wrong and we would have to move out and find another house.

The Pod with our furniture in it arrived on 23 November - it was great to have a fridge and washing machine in the house as well as our lovely comfortable bed and comfortable chairs to lounge in to watch TV.
